Twilight Twitches

fetscherDear Family,
I found the following prayer on the website of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Heavenly Father,
On this Meorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom.
May the example of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with your strength and peace.
In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe.
We pray through Christ our Lord.

Memorial Day remembers those who died in the military service. Veteran’s Day in November honors all those who serve.

You might think it strange that I chose to include in this Twitch, the next thing I want to share. I could have done it on Mother’s Day but forgot I had it. Maybe we can call this Twitch two moments of reflection worth taking. I hope you’ll think so.
The following is called The Joy of Adoption. My heartfelt thanks to the great lady who shared it with me.
As always in Jesus,

“Imagine, if you can, a young married couple who have been trying for years to have a child with no success. You both have gone the medical route and have been tested and retested to no avail. You are Christian and pro-life, so invitro fertilization is out of the question since it involves abortion.

Couples you know with two or three children are frustrated because birth control didn’t work. You hear of tens of thousands of babies being aborted.

And then God answers your prayers; you have been chosen to be able to adopt a baby.
There is no joy quite like the joy you are experiencing. You and your husband will no longer be just a couple; you will be a family – with its challenges, frustrations and rewards.

You joy is explosive. Your parents will now have the grandchildren they longed for. Your family and friends rejoice with you. Soon there’s a baby shower and all the exciting preparations for a new member of the household.

The joy extends far beyond the young couple and their families and friends. The birth mother who was unable to provide for her child has the joy of knowing that her baby will be loved and well provided for. Due to open adoptions today, she does not have to lose contact with her child. The baby will have the benefit of both a mother and a father to help in the rearing of the child. Adoption is a three-way blessing; to the child, to the birth parent, and to the adoptive parents.

I know all of this because my four adopted children have given me five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. My retirement years have not been lonely. My adopted family has given back to me the love and care that I gave to them.”
