Twilight Twitches

fetscherDear Family,
This isn’t the way I want to begin this week’s Twitch, BUT some of you have been calling about receiving text message from me asking you to buy gift cards and then sending me the numbers of the card(s).

IT’S A SCAM!

It’s happened before. I will NEVER ask you to send me money or cards via email or text. If I need money, I’ll call you and pick it up personally. And I don’t need money, (at least right now…)

Don’t you wish people could use their creativity a little more productively?

I’m sitting here shaking my head, because if it isn’t some scammers, it’s a few kids spoiling it for others but dumping their empty beer cans and a large twelve pack container on the grounds – over the tracks of a wheelie that someone did in the grass. Sad to say it’s not the first time – or the twentieth for that matter. I sure hope they have a designated driver. Right…

As I sit here being aggravated, I think the Holy Spirit just gave me a kick in an efficacious spot, because while I’m stewing over a few kids and their peccadillos and the scammers pretending to be me, the Spirit made me think of the new president and all the stuff that’s on his plate. Talk about putting things in perspective! OK, Holy Spirit, keep those kids safe on the water and on the road, and keep our new president’s head above the waterline. Somehow, right now, the kids might need you more, but it’s your call.

Is it a coincidence that today’s second reading from I Corinthians says, “An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.”? This unmarried man sure got preoccupied. Paul’s real point is don’t let anxieties keep you from being focused on the Lord.

Blessing of Throats

So now, let’s see, what was I going to write about? Oh yes, Wednesday is the feast of St. Blaise. This year we won’t do the symbolic touching to the throats of the blessed candles, but we can offer the blessing on Wednesday and then again at all the Masses next Sunday. I’ll throw in a special COVID-19 intention.

Thank you for your first responses to the ArchBishop’s Charities Drive. We reached 36% of the $112,284 goal.

I neglected to mention at all the Masses last week that if you are not able to participate this year, please fill out an envelope and simply say that. No one will know except one person who has forgotten how to speak. The reason is that we won’t waste money and postage trying to contact you. Also, in a very real sense, it shows that you are willing to be accountable no matter what your present circumstance may be.

How do you cram need into a short video, like the one we saw last weekend? I’m not quite sure why I was included with that brief flash of me. I’ve decided that it was a way of honoring your generosity. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

BOWL QUANDRY

So how do I resolve the problem of having a choice of cheering for Archbishop Keleher’s Kansas City Chiefs or our own fellow Floridians with one talented aging-very-well Boston transplant?

For those of you who don’t know, retired Archbishop Keleher is a longtime friend of the parish. He celebrates 90 this year and I want him to be happy! God will take care of it!

In Jesus,
